Review by Helen Monigatti
This story is great for 2-5 year old age group. It is a very short story about a little boy whose older sister and brother always have bigger things than he does just because he is the smallest in the family.........until the end where Titch has the best thing of all!
This book is filled with mathematics, where children are able to compare the size of different things. The pictures are very clear and easy to gain meaning from. Parents/Educators can extend their children's learning about size by inviting children to find things at home that are smaller and bigger than others.
The book allows for lots of expression when it is being read to children as the adult reading the story can use soft and loud tones in their voice, as well as body language, to express the size of different items. The story also provides lots of rhythm through its phrasing. Hearing the rhythm in stories is important for children's overall literacy development.
After numerous readings of this simple story, many three and four year children quickly learn to 'read' the story for themselves. Through doing this children will develop confidence that they can become future readers.
