Junk-mail Art
Why not have some fun with all that junk mail that clutters up your letterbox. These make great Christmas presents for family members.
MATERIALS:
- Envelopes
- Gift wrap
- Magazines
- Little bits of junk mail i.e fliers
- Brown paper
- Adverts
- Old magazines
- 3 cups of water
- 1 cup of flour (to make paste)
STEPS:
- Make your paste first. Mix the 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of water in a saucepan. Stir until smooth, add 2 cups of water and bring to the boil. Pour into a bowl and allow to cool.
- Tear your paper into small pieces and place in a plastic bowl. Pour on hot water (you will need to do this for the kids) Make sure the water covers the paper.
- Leave the paper for 3 hours. Then pour off the water through a sieve. Squeeze the paper as dry as you can.
To make a bowl:
- Rub some petroleum jelly all over the inside of a bowl, this will stop the paper mulch from sticking. You can use any size and shape!
- Press the mulch hard against the inside of the bowl.
- Leave it to dry overnight or until it is really hard and dry. Use a knife to loosen around the edge of the bowl.
- Lift it out carefully. If can now paint your bowl if desired or if you have used coloured paper, leave it as Mosaic.
