Q. Do we need to find our own Nanny, or would NURTURE do that for us?
A. If you know of someone you would be happy to employ as a Nanny for your family that's fine. If not, NURTURE can assist you.
Q. Can I employ a relative or friend?
A. Yes, that's often a wonderful option.
Q. How much will a Nanny cost us?
A. The hourly rate for a Nanny is negotiated between the family and the Nanny but must be at least the current minimum wage.
However, many families are able to make use of Government subsidies such as The Work and Income Childcare subsidy, 20 ECE hours, Multiple Birth subsidy. NURTURE also provides a subsidy to help with the cost of your Nanny. It may be cheaper than you think to employ a Nanny, especially if you have more than one child.
Phone Denise at the office (0800 936878) and she will calculate the costs for you.
Q. Who deals with paying the Nanny's wages?
A. NURTURE provides a service for managing the wages if the family wish (for a small charge).
If the family are entitled to WORK AND INCOME support then the wages must be administered through our service.
Q. Do we need an employment contract?
A. New Zealand law means this is compulsory; it is also a very good idea! NURTURE can supply you with a generic "individual employment contract" if you wish.
Q. Will my child go on outings with the Nanny and if so who provides the car and car seats?
A. One of the advantages of employing a Nanny is that the children can continue with swimming lessons, gym classes etc. Nannies are able to transport children if
· They have their FULL drivers license.
· You have given your written permission for them to do so.
· The transporting car has a current registration and warrant of fitness
· The correct child seat are used
NB If the Nanny is using the family car it is the family's responsibility to cover insurance.
Q. What happens if my child is unwell?
A. One of the benefits of having a Nanny is that your child is able to stay home in their own environment, and you are still able to go to work. If your child is very unwell, or is vomiting you may need to stay home with them.
Q. What happens if my Nanny is sick?
A. Nurture has relief Nannies available. However it is good to have a back up plan as well. Eg Grandparent or friend.
Q. What about food?
A. Families provide food for the children, and tea/coffee for the Nanny. Nanny's bring their own lunch.
Q. Would the Nanny be allowed to have visitors while caring for my children?
A. Not without your written permission.
Q. What happens if my house doesn't pass the safely check?
A. We will let you know what needs to be done in order to comply. You may need to purchase some smoke alarms, safety latches for cupboards etc. Some additional fencing may be required but we can talk through the options at the time.
Q. What do I do if I am not happy with my Nanny or something about NURTURE?
A. Ring us as soon as possible. We have a toll free number and a duty Mentoring Teacher is available during opening hours. 7.30am – 7.30pm.
