Family helping family, Friends helping friends  …

working together with NURTURE to give our tamariki the best possible start.

Q. What financial benefits are there for our family to join NURTURE?

A. For every hour your volunteer is helping you (for up to six hours a day) NURTURE is able to provide a Resource Subsidy.  Details as follows:

          $1 per child per hour.

                       or

$2.00 per child per hour if accessing the 20 ECE hours.  (3 and 4 year olds)

                       or

$2.50 per child per hour if you have twins under two years old.

             or

$3.20 per child per hour if you have triplets under two years old.

The Resource Subsidy is calculated from fortnightly time-sheets which are sent in to NURTURE.  The Resource Subsidy is then paid to the families via vouchers from The Warehouse, Baby Factory and Farmers.

Even if you only have one child, and a volunteer for 20 hours a week, by December each year you could have up to $800 worth of vouchers saved up!  If you have 2 child this would be $1600.00.

NB Volunteer Care can be used alongside our other types of care, e.g. a family could employ a nanny for two days per week and have a volunteer three days per week.

Q. Is this income tested?

A. No, not at all.

Q. What are the Educational Benefits?

A. Each month a qualified Early Childhood Teacher (we call them Mentoring Teachers) will visit your children.  This is an informal visit where the Mentoring Teacher will get to know your children.  They will also give your Volunteer ideas, information and inspiration!

NURTURE also holds regular playgroups, nature walks and music sessions.  Your children are welcome to attend these with any family member.

Q. Is there a minimum number of hours we need to enrol for?

A. Yes, but this depends on the age of your children, and how many children you have.

If you ring the office we will be able to let you know. 0800 936878

Q. Is there anything we need to do to qualify?

A. Because NURTURE is funded by the Ministry of Education there are some regulations we must comply to.
